An 'Eve'ning Of Music
Ladies night at the Moonshine Cafe Wednesday, October 29 Hosted by Julie Cutler Julie has often been described as a true singer, and her award winning songs touch on every subject and emotion. She has " the kind of voice you can tune your guitar to" - Camaromance. Julie has been performing since she was a young child having her first paid gig at age 13 and the years have only been kind to her. She gets more confident and skilled with each show having performed hundreds of times all over Southern Ontario. She has recorded 2 solo CDs - Pretty As I Want To Be and I'm Just Me and is very proud of her latest release - a CD with her duo Redman Live called Here In The Country. Featuring Linda M 2008 is off to a strong start for Performing Songwriter Linda M with both Artist and Songwriting Contest wins! Emma Cook Since the release of Emma Cook's debut album 'Manifesto' Emma has been rapidly garnering attention on the folk rock scene in Toronto and throughout Southern Ontario. Witty, vibrant and outspoken, Emma gives audiences a live show to remember. She has a way of pulling you into her art, whether you expected to go with her or not. Emma's mainly self-taught percussive guitar techniques make for a high caliber of accompaniment. Rarely do you find a young artist with so much charisma and raw talent. Emma comes from a family of musicians hailing from the East Coast, however she was born and raised primarily in Toronto. Her formal vocal training began at an early age, culminating at a Grade 9 Conservatory Level. Emma also took a year of guitar lessons for a year in her early teens but has since become mostly self-taught. Although a career in the classical genre seemed like a natural choice, a brief foray into a degree in voice in Dalhousie University was enough to convince her to switch to Philosophy. "I had a feeling in my teens that I was not going to pursue a career in the classical genre, I felt it would be too limiting. Once I made that decision, I started to 'un-train' myself in order to come up with my own sound and style." Annie Marleau Singer/songwriter Annie Marleau has been receiving much attention since the release of her debut cd "Alive" in 2006. Her list of credits continue to expand including radio airplay across Canada for her single "Run", remaining #1 on the IAC music chart for over 4 weeks for her single "Addicted" and being a featured artist on XM Satellite Radio's "the Radar Report". This past summer, Annie opened for well known jazz artist Molly Johnson on the OLG stage at Burlington's Sound of Music Festival as well as performing at Burlington's Canada Day celebrations. Annie's music has been described as "unique indie pop material with a strong adult contemporary influence". Her songs have passion, power and range and her lyrics are intelligent with deep meaningful messages. She has a natural talent for creating songs with catchy melodies and memorable hooks that linger in your mind long after you've heard them. Her engaging voice immediately draws in her listeners and her hauntingly sensual vocal delivery is versatile enough to cut through a pounding guitar riff or float over a quiet ballad. Distinctive influences of singer/songwriters Jann Arden, Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow can be heard in her style, but make no mistake she is clearly paving her own road. This night runs from 8:30 - 11:00pm with the host and featured performers, followed by an open stage where everyone (regardless of gender) is welcome. The regular open stage follows from 11pm till close. Interested in a feature spot?
